Recycling - Appropriate Items

Metals, Glass, Plastic & Cartons
(These items go in your Blue Bin)

WHAT TO RECYCLE:
HOW TO PREPARE: WHAT NOT TO INCLUDE:
  • Metal Cans & Scrap Metal
  • Aluminum & tin cans
  • Foil & pie plates
  • Empty steel aerosol cans
  • Empty latex paint cans
  • Scrap metal (any item that’s all metal)
Rinse cans. Remove and recycle metal lids, including paint can lids. A thin skin of dry latex paint left in can is okay. Place in Blue Bin. Set out scrap metal bundled or loose.
  • Scrap metal longer than 2 1/2 feet or heavier than 35 lbs.

Glass Bottles
Glass food and beverage containers
Rinse. Remove caps & lids. Okay to recycle metal lids. No need to remove paper or plastic labels. Place in Blue Bin.

Plastic (New!)
All plastic with the #1 symbol on the bottom, including soda and juice bottles and deli containers
Rinse. Remove and throw away plastic caps & lids. No need to remove paper or plastic labels. Place in Blue Bin.
  • Plastic bags, clear plastic food wrap, potato chip & sandwich bags, etc.
  • Styrofoam
  • Plastics with symbols #3-#7, or plastics with no number symbol.
Plastic Bottles (New!)
Colored and uncolored (like milk and detergent) with the #2 symbol on the bottom
Rinse. Remove and throw away plastic caps & lids. Place in Blue Bin.
  • Plastic tubs (yogurt, margarine, etc.)
  • Automotive fluid bottles
Milk & Juice Cartons & Drink Boxes (New!) Rinse. Remove and throw away straws. Place in Blue Bin with bottles and cans.
  • Frozen food boxes (ice cream, TV dinners, etc.)

 

PAPER
(These items go in your Green Bin)

WHAT TO RECYCLE: HOW TO PREPARE: WHAT NOT TO INCLUDE:

Mixed Paper

  • Mail
  • envelopes, magazines
  • catalogs
  • phonebooks
  • writing paper
  • paperbacks
  • paper bags
Place in Green Bin. All mixed paper, newspapers and thin cardboard can be mixed together
  • Paper towels, tissues, napkins, etc.
  • Cigarette packs or candy wrappers
  • Waxed or plastic coated paper
  • Plastic bags
Newspapers
All newsprint material
Set out in brown paper bags or tied with string

Do not bag with plastic bags

Cardboard (New!)
Boxes and other corrugated cardboard
Flatten & tie with string to save space in trucks. Keep bundles less than 2 1/2 feet long, or wide. Place next to Blue & Green Bins.
  • Cardboard larger than 3 feet.
  • Dirt or greasy cardboard
  • Styrofoam or other packaging material
Thin Cardboard (New!)
Any thin cardboard such as shoe, cereal and cookie boxes, toilet paper rolls, etc.
Remove any wrapping or plastic lining. Crush or flatten to save space. Place in Green Bin.
  • Take-out or frozen food boxes
  • Six-pack cases or containers
  • Soap or laundry detergent boxes
  • Boxes with silver or foil coatings
  • Nothing dirty, greasy or plastic coated
