WATER MAIN IMPROVEMENT PROJECT TO START
The City of East Providence Department of Public Works announces the commencement of a water main improvement project to upgrade aging water mains in the City. This work will rehabilitate aging water system pipelines some of which are over 100 years old to improve water quality and system operations for the City residents and businesses.
The contractor is planning to mobilize the week of September 28th and will complete as much of the work as possible until December 1st at which time there will be a shutdown period during the winter months. Work will startup again in the Spring and the project is currently scheduled for completion by July 1, 2010.
A contract award was made to W. Walsh Company of Attleboro, MA for the amount $3,081,161.00. The project will be funded through the State Revolving Loan Fund administered by the Rhode Island Clean Water Finance Agency and is also the beneficiary of stimulus funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The project consists of cleaning and lining approximately 25,000 linear feet of water pipeline, as well as the replacement and installation of approximately 9,000 linear feet of water pipeline, including the installation of new valves and hydrants. The cleaning and lining process allows for more pipeline to be improved as it is a cost effective trenchless technology compared with complete replacement which requires full road cuts and restoration. For more information on the cleaning and lining process, water customers may view the W. Walsh Company website at www.wwalsh.com.
The project will take place on the following streets: Sutton Avenue, Curtis Street, Central Avenue, Dourado Lane, Birch Street, Anthony Street, Antigo Court, Blanding Avenue, Ivy Street, James Street, Waterman Avenue, Summit Street, Walnut Street, Vine Street, Greene Street, Williams Avenue, McCauseland Avenue, John Street, Cross Street, Russell Avenue, Mary Avenue, Alice Street, Woodward Avenue, Wilmarth Avenue, Massasoit Avenue, Barry Street, Cooper Street, Grape Street.
Water customers within the project area will receive more detailed information on the project. Further information may also be obtained on the City website, www.eastprovidenceri.net.
