6/17/2011 - Two East Providence Attractions Nominated for Best of the Road Contest

Rand McNally is sponsoring their annual "Best of the Road" in the United States contest featuring 30 best towns and over 20 categories including: best historical site, museum, fishing site, etc.

For the last 10 years, the publisher has been celebrating locations that are lesser-known, unique, captures a region's essence and more. These destinations have been featured in their Travel Guide and Road Atlas.

In 2011, Rand McNally and USA TODAY teamed up and took this program to the Web to enable consumers to voice their opinion on what points of interest or small towns they think should be featured in the publications.

The East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce recently nominated two local attractions for the contest. The Crescent Park Carousel has been nominated for Best Historical Site and Pomham Rocks
Lighthouse for Best Lighthouse.

The general public’s help is needed to vote for these nominees. The sites that receive the most votes will be recognized on www.bestoftheroad.com, written about by USA TODAY, and featured in the 2013 Rand McNally Road Atlas.

To vote for the Carousel or Lighthouse, follow these 4 easy steps:
1. Visit www.bestoftheroad.com;
2. At the top of the page, click on “View Places” or type in the search box: Crescent Park Carousel; 3. The page for the Carousel will appear;
4. Click on the “Review and Vote” button. (You can also write a review or upload a picture, but it’s not required.)

Repeat the same for Pomham Rocks Lighthouse.

“Anyone can post a nomination for the other categories on the Best of the Road Web site and we encourage them to do so.” said Laura McNamara, executive director, of the East Providence Area Chamber. “We selected these two venues because of their popularity, prominence in East Providence, and because they have non-profit, volunteer organizations associated with them.”

The voting will end on July 15, 2011 and the nominees with the most votes will be announced the winner for their categories. For more information, contact the East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce at 401.438.1212 or office@eastprovchamber.com.
