The City of East Providence Department of Public Works, Refuse/Recycling Program, is sponsoring Earth Day Neighborhood Cleanups and Beautification Projects throughout the city during the month of April and early May.  Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp. (RIRRC) will once again be waiving disposal (tipping) fees on solid waste for the city’s organized/registered groups involved in a cleanup efforts in honor of Earth Day, from April 1, 2016 to May 15, 2016.  These cleanups will collectively be eligible for a tip fee waiver of 10 tons max., this tonnage will not count against the municipality’s Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) cap.   City crews will collect the debris after cleanups and transport material to RIRRC.

On Saturday, April 23rd from 9am to 1pm DPW will have an Earth Day & Recycling booth set up with recycling information, and free Earth Day coloring books for children at the Crescent Park Carousel’s Earth Day clean up event.  Volunteers are needed for this event, any amount of time you can volunteer is appreciated.  Assorted tasks need to be done, pick up litter, yard debris, tending to the existing flower beds – removing weeds, sweeping, racking etc.  Work gloves, bags and small garden tools will be available at the Earth Day Booth.

If you are not able to attend the event at the carousel but are interested in volunteering or forming a “Clean Team” for your neighborhood area or assist in cleaning the waterfront, bike path, walking trail, or open spaces throughout the City, please contact Donna McMahon, DPW, Refuse/Recycling Program Coordinator at 401-435-7710 for more information.
