7/20/2015 - Water Main Improvement Project

CITY OF EAST PROVIDENCE WATER MAIN IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

The City of East Providence will be upgrading water mains on Lyon Avenue, Juniper Street, South Broadway, Bliss Street, Hazelwood Avenue, Brown Street, Brightridge Avenue, Pawtucket Avenue, and Walmer Avenue over the course of the next 18 months. The work will involve installation of a new 20” transmission water main.  This work is part of the City’s larger water system upgrades project that has the ultimate objective of improving water quality throughout the City.  Our contractor for this work is Rosciti Construction of Johnston, RI.

HOW WILL THIS WORK AFFECT YOU?
As part of construction, customers may experience temporary water service disruptions that will last between 4 and 8 hours.  Customers will receive advanced 24-hour notice before this occurs.   Additionally, there may be times when above ground temporary water bypass lines will need to be installed to supply water to affected customers when a longer term water shutdown is required as part of the construction project.  These lines will be connected to each of the affected customers so that those customers will not lose water service.  Should you have any questions or concerns about a worker wanting access to your home, please don’t hesitate to call our office at 401-435-7741 between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm or contact or contact Police Dispatch at 435-7600 after hours and weekends.

PLEASE WATCH YOUR STEP!
You will notice trench openings in the street and may see temporary bypass pipelines running along roadways and across intersections and driveways.  In some instances, gravel ramps will be provided over temporary bypass pipes to allow cars to drive over the pipelines. Please watch your step. If you see any potentially hazardous situations, please call us. All trench openings will be filled in and resurfaced at the earliest possible time. All by-pass piping and gravel ramps, steel road plates, and all debris and materials will be picked up as soon as possible after the work is complete. Temporary asphalt patch will be installed as soon as possible and will be replaced by a permanent patch at later stages of the project. Every possible safety precaution will be taken while the project is in progress. All work areas will be barricaded and carefully marked to prevent accidents or injuries. You can help to avoid accidents by cautioning your family and friends to watch their step and avoid the work areas as much as possible.

WHAT ABOUT PARKING AND ACCESS TO THE STREET?
Normally, local access is permitted to residents; however streets where work is being performed might be restricted to alternating one-way traffic or may potentially be closed, depending on the type of work going on.  Also, on street parking may be restricted during construction.  Residents will see no parking signs posted in advance of any on street parking restrictions.  Parking disruptions and access restrictions will be minimized whenever possible.

TEMPORARY INCONVENIENCE, PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS
Clear, clean, high quality drinking water is our ultimate objective in all this activity. We realize that there are going to be some inconveniences during the project such as noise, dust, water shutdowns, traffic detours and temporary pavement. We will strive to minimize these inconveniences on our customers. However, these inconveniences are short term and are required to meet our long term objective of providing new and upgraded water pipelines that bring clean and safe drinking water to your homes.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we work to improve your water system.
