4/6/2010 - 2010 US Census "March to the Mailbox" Rally

On Saturday, April 10, 2010 the United Census Bureau will be holding a “March to the Mailbox Rally” at the Cape Verdean Progressive Center located on 329 Grosvenor Avenue, East Providence, R.I. 02914 from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. there will be free t-shirts, cups, pens, hats, entertainment and light refreshments.

The purpose of this event is to bring the community’s attention to the 2010 Nationwide Census conducted by the United States Census Bureau and to raise its return rates. This is extremely important because the Census helps the Federal government adjudicate: A) The number of Congressman to distribute per state in the House of Representatives and B) How much will be appropriated to each state and area from the Federal Budget. As a result, it is very much a concern of East Providence and every other community in the country.

In the 2000 Census, East Providence had a return rate of 73%. This year we wish to boost that number considerably. The only way which is possible to do so is to constantly remind the public of the Census and its importance in providing services to the community. For every household which does not return the census form, the community lose money for vital resources such as schooling, police and fire. It is only through constant advertising and clearing up misconceptions of the Census use that we can improve this rate.

Your attendance is of great importance and will help spread word of the significance of the 2010 Census. It is one of the shortest forms in the history of the Census. Just 10 questions in 10 minutes! Then all that needs to be done is for it to be mailed in. These are points which we shall be stressing.

There is simply no easier way for the citizens of East Providence to help this great city than to fill out the 2010 Census and mail it in. For that reason we are throwing the “March to the Mailbox Rally” on Saturday, April 10, 2010. We hope to see you there!
