SPECIAL NEEDS

Age 7 to Senior

The Department is one of the very few in the state of Rhode Island to provide year round recreational activities for individuals who are physically and/or mentally challenged. A six week summer day camp for youth is offered at no cost to residents. Adults have the opportunity to participate on a weekly basis in programs that encompass passive and active leisure arts. There is no fee to engage in these activities. The Department offers door-to-door transportation for all special needs programs and our buses are wheelchair accessible. A medical release form is required of all first time participants. Call 435-7511 to request a form. All Programs held at the Recreation Center except where noted.

CRAFTS WORKSHOP

(Age 18+)  Meets for 6 evening sessions in the Fall at the Recreation Center from October-November 

BINGO

(Age 18+)  Meets evenings once a week at the Recreation Center from February-March

COFFEE HOUR

(Age 18+)  Meets 2nd & 5th Wednesday of each month. Visits to area coffee shops to savor your favorite sweets & beverage. $5. p/person/6PM pick up

DANCERCISE

(Age 18+)  Meets evenings once a week at the Recreation Center from April-May

DINE OUT 

(Age 18+)  Meets first Wednesday of each month.  Travel to area restaurants to enjoy an evening meal.  $13.p/person  Buses begin pick up @ 5PM

MOVIES 

(Age 18+) Meets 3rd Wednesday of each month Showcase-$7.75 or Patriots Cinemas-$2.00 5:45PM pick up

MYSTERY RIDE

(Age 18+)  Meeets 4th Wednesday of each month $5. p/person 6PM pick up

SATURDAY PROGRAM

(Age 18+)  Year round.  Shopping trips, luncheons, theatre, movie matinees & more! 10:30AM-2:30PM Respective fees apply.

GARDEN CLUB 

(Age 18+)  Seasonal.  Participants learn principles of horticulture & use plant materials in landscape projects at City Hall & area parks. Seasonal program with all materials FREE!

YOUTH DAY CAMP

Age 7-17   Six week summer day camp held Monday through Friday at Pierce Field beginning first week after school closings in June. Camp features crafts, swimming, bowling, field trips and special events! Limited enrollment. Call 435-7511 to obtain an application.
