Alba Curti, Acting Director of Parks & RecreationThe Director of Parks & Recreation reports directly to the City Manager. Nine full-time employees staff the Recreation Division. The staff includes the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation, Senior Citizen Coordinator, Recreation Center Coordinator, Recreation Center Manager, Pierce Field Manager, two laborers and one Clerk. There are over 100 seasonal employees who assist with a variety of programs sponsored by the department.
The Recreation Division oversees the scheduling of 15 playgrounds, 20 ball fields, 12 outdoor tennis courts, 28 outdoor basketball courts, Agawam Softball Complex, Pierce Memorial Stadium, Hunts Mills recreation area, 15 neighborhood parks and three conservation areas. Staffing, maintaining and scheduling of programs at the Recreation and Activities Center is also a major activity of this division.
The Parks Division is composed of 16 full-time employees including an Assistant Parks Superintendent, one Clerk, 14 full-time laborers and additional seasonal laborers. Parks maintains city trees, two historic cemeteries, three conservation areas, all playgrounds, parks and athletic fields with the exception of the Pierce Field Complex as well as assisting with the maintenance of public buildings.
The administrative offices of the Parks & Recreation Department are located on the third floor of City Hall. Indoor recreational activities are held at the Recreation Center located at 100 Bullocks Point Avenue in the Riverside section of the City. The Parks Division is located at 60 Commercial Way.
