City Government

City Council

The City Council consists of five elected officials, one from each of the four wards within the City and one elected at-large. The Mayor and Assistant Mayor are elected by the Council from among its members. The Mayor presides at Council meetings and is the ceremonial head of City Government. The Assistant Mayor acts as Mayor during the absence or disability of the Mayor. The City Council meets regularly on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, except on holidays when an alternate date is set, and in July and August the Council meets once each month.

The City Council determines policy for City government by resolution, ordinance and adoption of the City budget. The Council is instrumental in assisting citizens with questions and complaints regarding the workings of City government.
