Beautification Commission

East Providence Beautification Commission was established by the City Council in 1967.  This action was a direct result of the congressional Beautification Act, inspired by former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson.

The City Council appoints twenty voting members to the Commission.  City Professionals also assist.

The Commission operates under the auspices of the city Planning Board.  Periodically, we conduct reviews and make recommendations to the Zoning Board of Review.  Working with these city departments and others, as well as with our citizenry, it is our hope to keep East Providence beautiful.

As “Keepers of the Spring”, it is the Commission’s desire to encourage projects and efforts which help to rejuvenate and beautify open spaces and properties throughout East Providence.  Each year, individuals, businesses and others will receive special recognition at an awards ceremony.

The East Providence Beautification Commission accepts its charge to help East Providence remain a beautiful community in which all residents and visitors can be proud.
